ISSA DIOP became the first concussion sub in English football history on Tuesday night.

The West Ham star was subbed off in the FA Cup loss at Manchester United after a clash of heads.

Diop, who came on to change injured Angelo Ogbonna in the 16th minute, hit Anthony Martial.

He didn’t return for the 2nd half as Ryan Fredericks changed him.

And West Ham validated via Twitter that they used a concussion sub.


Their tweet read: “Another enforced change, this time Yarmolenko is replaced by Odubeko.

” As the Diop substitution was due to concussion, we have two changes remaining.”

The extra concussion sub meant West Ham were permitted 6 changes – another than the 5 allowed on Tuesday.

The new guideline was brought in for Premier League matches last weekend and added for the FA Cup 5th round ties.
