Car Chess publisher Dragonest is returning to the video game’s origins as it has announced a multiplayer online fight arena (MOBA) spinoff. Auto Chess debuted as a mod for Dota 2, one of the most popular MOBAs on earth, so it’s a case of the snake consuming its own tail.

Developer Drodo Studio released the Dota Vehicle Chess mod in January 2019 before creating a relabelled standalone variation later that year. Its success triggered Valve to make its own auto combatant spinoff of Dota 2 called Dota Underlords. Riot Games likewise participated the action with League of Legends vehicle chess offshoot Teamfight Strategies.
