The Sigerson Cup

Gaelic football’s premier third level competition, the Sigerson Cup, will not take place during this scholastic year due to the fact that of the escalating Covid situation.

The GAA’s College committee has verified that the Sigerson and tossing’s Fitzgibbon Cup have been held off till the fall at the earliest.

It’s understood Croke Park will take a look at possibly staging the 2021 competitions in the very first semester of the 2021/2022 scholastic year – however there are no guarantees that this will occur.

The decision affects both the IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT (LYIT) senior’s males’s gaelic footballers.

LYIT broke new ground in the 2020 competitors when they reached the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup for the very first time in the college’s history (pounding IT Sligo in the last eight).

In 2015’s Sigerson was won by DCU, who were captained by St Naul’s clubman Brendan McCole.
