Lucas Digne misses out on Champions League and makes transfer admission
Lucas Digne says he yearns to play in the Champions League once again and hopes he can seal a go back to Europe’s leading table with Everton.
And the Blues’ left-back sounds confident about the club’s opportunities of playing in European competition next season after a transfer window in which the club did “well”.
Digne has played over 20 times in the Champions League group stages with Barcelona, Roma, Paris Saint Germain and Lille and though he accepts that the race for the leading 4 in the Premier League is difficult, he is securely repaired on that target this term.
Everton made a blistering start to the season and were leading of the table heading into November, but three straight defeats has actually seen the side slip to seventh.
Digne, talking to Goal, stated: “To me, our great start was not a surprise. We revealed our true level.
” The club did well in the transfer market, so we are a great group of gamers – and a terrific manager with fantastic experience in leading football.
” It is an amazing time to be in Everton today. We will return to our best and will be a strong group this season.”
On the Champions League, the 27-year-old added: “Everton have ambitions to play in the Champions League, and so do I, because I miss it.
” I was used to playing for clubs who were always in the Champions League. However competition for the four Champions League spots in the Premier League is extremely difficult. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that we aim for Europe.”
