Players from the Paris Saint-German and Istanbul Basaksehir football clubs strolled off the field during a Champions League match at Paris’ Parc des Princes stadium on December 8 in demonstration after a referee supposedly used a racist classification in a call. The event happened in the first half of the match on Tuesday, when Pierre Webo, an assistant coach for Istanbul Basaksehir who is originally from Cameroon, was provided a red card. The Turkish side accused Romanian fourth authorities Sebastian Coltescu of utilizing a ‘racist’ term during the encounter. According to football journalist Emanuel Roşu, the main recognized the player by calling him ‘that black one”” (the Romanian word for black is ‘negru,’ Roşu stated on Twitter). Both sides walked off the field, and the match was suspended. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) later revealed that the video game would reboot without the fourth official.
